Set in the beautiful valley of the River Kennet, which flows past the front of an immaculate lawn, is this exquisite Georgian house. Heather serves breakfast in the elegant conservatory, which leads onto the charming garden with the lawn sloping down to the river. A perfect place to sit and enjoy the wildlife and magnificent view. Upstairs the bedrooms are attractively furnished with televisions, tea/coffee making facilities and views of the garden and river.
Mildenhall is a few miles outside Marlborough which has a thriving weekly market, hosts an annual jazz festival and the Mop fair, when the streets are closed to traffic and there is a real carnival atmosphere. Marlborough is also the location of the very popular school, Marlborough College, and Heather is always pleased to welcome parents of children who attend the college when they want to attend parents events, drama, sporting or musical activities. Heather also knows a lot about local restaurants, and if you need a recommendation, you only have to ask. There is a good local golf club set in beautiful countryside just outside the town, and the nearby towns of Hungerford and Pewsey are also worth a visit.
Fisherman’s House has been chosen to feature in Alastair Sawday's "special places to stay". The house was selected to be on the front cover of the leading accommodation guide, “Britain’s Finest”, in 2010 and has featured in the Country Homes magazine, amongst others. Access is straightforward from the M4, but the village itself is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Please visit the Directions Page for directions and a map.
“This is a beautiful house in a wonderful setting and the welcome was warm. The bed was incredibly comfortable and I could hardly tear myself away on my house hunting trips. I was looked after beautifully and cannot recommend it more highly.”
“My boyfriend and I have just come back from one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The rooms are comfortable and furnished in the country-house style. On our arrival we were greeted warmly by our charming host, Heather Coulter and offered a hugely welcome G&T!
Our ensuite double room was well appointed, comfortable and beautifully decorated with a superb view of the river, with the bridge lit up at night and the morning sun streaming through the window. We also had at our disposal the residents sitting room.
Breakfast, cooked to perfection by Heather, was served in the conservatory leading off the kitchen. We could have had whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted! It was lovely to be able to chat to our host while she bustled in the kitchen. To be honest I didn't want to leave! At £90 a night it was worth every penny.”
